Applying “TRIAL + (4)” for sustainable productivity growth

TRIAL + (4) came about when I reflected on how Court judges asked questions at the inquiry sessions.

In a similar manner I would relate the practice of TRIAL + (4) to support sustainable productivity growth by asking a series of questions.

TRIAL + (4) simply means to Trust your fellow colleagues and team members in whatever they do, and Respect them for who they are i.e. to build unity with diversity. Questions asked would include: Do your trust your colleagues and team members? Do you respect them? What did you do to substantiate the actions? and ….

To treat your fellow colleagues and team members with Integrity i.e. to do what you say that you would do, and be Accountable for your deeds regardless if the “mistakes” were committed by you or your team members. Questions asked would include: What did you do to show your Integrity? Are you accountable for your mistakes and those of your team members’? and ….

To treat your colleagues and team members fairly as individuals by observing the practice of Leveling (Fair Play). Question asked could be: What did you do to show that you treat your colleagues and team members fairly? and ….

The plus (4) elements are (1) Frequency in communication i.e. to have Face to Face (F2F) communication frequently; Question asked could be: How often do you speak to your colleagues and team members in person? (2) Give credit when due i.e. to look for opportunities to praise someone for … (positive reinforcement breeds position results); Question asked could be: How often do you praise your colleagues and team members for whatever they do? (3) To tell your colleagues and team members in advance about things that could affect them; Question asked could be: When did you last talk to your colleagues and/or team members about changes that would affect them? and (4) To treat your colleagues and team members as individuals i.e. to practice unity with diversity. Question asked could be: Give an example of what you did in the last two weeks to handle diversity problems?

Two questions came to mind when I reflected on the above:

1. How else would you apply TRIAL + (4) at your workplace?

2. What are the benefits to you, to your family members, and to your Company if you practice TRIAL + (4)?
